چکیده

This paper is about scene modeling and image synthesis from existing views. From some known views of a 3d scene, called \reference views", we synthesize other views of the same scene, under another point of view. The outline of the whole process is simple: we rst match the reference views, then we reconstruct the matched points in projective or Euclidean space. We build the new view by projecting these points onto the plane of a virtual camera. We don't need to calibrate the cameras, as we don't need a real 3d model of the scene to synthesize the new view (a projective model is enough; transfer can be achieved by using the trilinear tensor or plain projective re-projection). This method is equivalent to a fast and realistic image synthesis. Fast, because we don't need to build a complex model of the scene by hand. Fast and realistic, because we don't have to render the synthesized view: the intensities or colors of the pixels are directly extracted from the (real) reference views. This technique has numerous potential uses in video compression, image synthesis, and more generally in all Virtual Reality applications.

Fast and Realistic Image Synthesis for Telemanipulation Purposes

We describe here a method to build fast and realistic synthetic images, which does not require a tedious a priori modeling of the scene to be displayed. We only use photos or videos of a real scene taken from some viewpoints, which in some way we \wrap" to get new (synthetic) images of the same scene. This way, we can virtually see and move inside the 3d scene. The process consists of two steps...

Image-based photo hulls for fast and photo-realistic new view synthesis

We present an efficient image-based rendering algorithm that generates views of a scene’s photo hull. The photo hull is the largest 3D shape that is photo-consistent with photographs taken of the scene from multiple viewpoints. Our algorithm, Image-Based Photo Hulls (IBPH), like the Image-Based Visual Hulls (IBVH) algorithm from Matusik et. al. on which it is based, takes advantage of epipolar ...

Stereo Vision for View Synthesis

We propose a new method for view synthesis from real images using stereo vision The method does not explicitly model scene geometry and enables fast and exact generation of synthetic views We also re evaluate the requirements on stereo algorithms for the application of view synthesis and discuss ways of deal ing with partially occluded regions of unknown depth and with completely occluded regio...

Synthesis of virtual views using non-Lambertian reflectivity models and stereo matching

A technique for the synthesis of virtual views of a 3D scene, starting from images taken by a calibrated multicamera system, is proposed and tested. Surface interpolation is performed over a set of 3D edges, computed with stereometric algorithms, and additional curvature-tuning points, scattered where the reflectivity model is sufficiently reliable. The 3D coordinates of the tuning points are c...

Real Time 3D Navigation in a Static Virtualized Scene from a Limited Set of 2D Data

Among the new data processing services and applications, virtual navigation in a real 3D world takes more and more importance and requires specific research. With regard to the reactions of the most important part of net surfers for example, we think that for a user of an interactive immersive tool, it is absolutely necessary to obtain a real time rendering of the virtual world, as natural and ...
